As the new semester starts, the RHS writing center meets its new coaches for this term. Whether they’re returning coaches or new, they all have one thing in common: a passion for helping their peers. In this Q&A, this semester’s writing coaches give us a peek into their bond and sense of community.
Q: What influenced you to join the writing center?
Santi: During my sophomore year I used to come down here a lot for help with my assignments and my writing coach, her name was Carly, she kind of helped me develop my writing so I wanted to also be able to do that with other people.
Caleb: I joined because I wanted to spend my last semester helping people, not in a traditional class, and I thought this was a good way to improve my writing.
Mehdi: My strong suit does happen to be in writing, I really like the vibe in here and the sense of community they have in here and a lot of my friends took writing center and they recommended me.
Q:What's your favorite part of being a writing coach?
Kimberly: Yeah I think for me it’s probably like building connections and just really getting people to open up and feel comfortable.
Sarah: The people that I work with.
Adam: It has to be the, you know, getting to bond with new people, you know getting to meet new people, and also helping them out with their work.
Q: What's the last song you listened to?
Kelsey: Everything I Love by Morgan Wallen
Adam: When We Were Young by Adele
Salma: Shot for You by Drake
